For this class we focused on the elements of game design. We learned what is like to create a working game from nothing to playable. I really enjoyed this experience as it allowed me to design everything from the characters to the environment to the game mechanics.
Game-1 Space Shooter
For out first project, we had to design a game that was in the style of a space shooter. I chose to bring the setting down to Earth and make a more comedic game.
My game is about the followers of the flying Spaghetti monster turning against their god in a time of extreme hunger.
Game Concept Statement
Introduction: You are playing as the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Those who follow you have turned on you in their desperation. In the apocalypse, food has become scarce. As a god made of spaghetti, you are exactly what the people are looking for to defeat their hunger. You must shoot them with your majestic meatballs in order to stop them from devouring you. If your followers get their hands on you, they will tear you to pieces and devore you. Only you can stop them.
Background: This is the story of starving humans. After a cataclysmic event that almost wiped out humans, people on Earth began to starve and they have turned to eating anything they can. The people of the Church of the flying spaghetti monster have given up all hope in their searches for sustenance and have turned on their god. The player takes control of the flying spaghetti monster in order to defend himself from his hungry flock of sheep. The player uses the monsters abilities of shooting giant meatballs to save his life from the people who once served him. The worshipers have become so hungry that they have become ravenous zombie like creatures. The only thing that stands in their way is the majestic meatballs of the mighty monster of delicious saucy holiness. The only question is; Can he hold his own?
Description: This game is a top down shooter game in which the players shoot and destroy enemies in order to increase their score. The features include full movement with the wasd keys and shooting with the left mouse button. It also includes a score system that allows players to win through destroying enemies.
Key Features: You get to enjoy playing as an interesting character and fight unending hordes of hungry people. The game has an enjoyable score system that allows the player to keep track of the amount of points that they have earned. The game gives the player the opportunity to enjoy surviving a sometimes intense form of gameplay as they scramble to survive and rack up points.
Platform: This will be played on any computer that can run it.

Game 2: AI Game
For our second game, we set out to design a game that used AI to make the game enjoyable. The original idea was to created a game in which the player tried to collect coins while the enemy AI tried to capture the player. This is a simple idea, however through further developing this idea in a fun in personal way, we were able to create unique games that I believe have the potential to be created professionally.

Concept
The Concept of my game is to escape. Johnny Tigerclaw is one of the world’s most famous serial killers. Due to his insane string of crimes, he has been sent to the most fortified prison known to man. After spending 5 long years on the prison island, He has devised a plan to escape. The player's job is to aid him in his escape.
Genre
The idea of this game is to be an adventure game mixed with a survival game with some elements of horror. The whole point of the game is to not be caught by the prison guards because if you do you will either be killed or you will be returned to your cell. When playing the game your job is to stealth around and avoid the guards while they are searching for you. If you are able to approach a guard without being noticed you can get rid of them with a stealth attack. However, the more guards that you kill, the more on edge the guards become and they will be more likely to shoot you on site. This is a fun mechanic to explore as it forces the player to make the difficult decision to either sneak past the guards or kill them but if they kill the guards the game's difficulty rises. While the player is moving through the story they will be given several things that they must collect. The first token is a handcuff key to free them from their cuffs and giving them the ability to climb and better use their hands. This mechanic will open up new access to areas that the player had to pass before. The next token is the prison guard disguise. This will give the player the ability to reenter the prison and find more areas to explore and provide more opportunities for the story to progress. While in the prison, the disguise no longer works due to the better lighting but you are then able to explore the prison while still avoiding the guards. This is where the difficulty picks up. While in the prison, you must search for the last token which is the boat key. Once you have the boat key the player will be allowed to progress to the end. However there are more steps in between each big token find to make the game more interesting. For example after finding the boat key, the player will have to solve a puzzle to unlock the docks that contain the boats and also find a way to get the boat to the water.
Mechanics
Stealth
The main mechanic of the game is stealth. The goal is to sneak around the game environment without getting caught. If you are found you have the ability to run and hide to avoid losing. You also have the option to kill the guards if you can sneak up to them and not be seen.
Collecting
The next biggest mechanic of the game is collecting items. Items will be collected and used to progress through the game. These include the tokens that help to progress through the game but also smaller items that help to escape, evade, and fight off the guards and also to get shortcuts and hiding places. Some items would include riot shields, rocks, a screwdriver, sticks, and badges. You are also permitted to kill the guards with their weapons if you can get your hands on them but the guns will be so loud that their location will be given away and the guards will be on high alert. The collected items will be displayed in a fun menu that has a pleasant ding upon opening.
Story
Characters
The main character of the game is Johnny Tigerclaw. He is a serial killer that has been thrown into a max security prison. His main goal is to escape from the island and return to killing before he dies for one last big bang.
The next big character is The Warden. He is the boss of the prison and he got his position for a reason. He loves to abuse his powers and lay his hands on any prisoners that “deserve it”.
The last major character is a character that everyone only knows as Molerat. He has been living on the island in secret for years. Among the prisoners and the guards he has become a legend. He escaped his imprisonment but not the island. Now Molerat is not only alive, but he is helping Johnny escape using the plan that he could never carry out himself.
Setting
The setting of the game takes place on the prison island of Isla Ifreann which translates to Island of Hell. This island has an ancient prison that has been continually updated on the inside to meet modern standards. The island is built from rocky cliffs that are covered in dense forests of foliage and trees. The game takes place over one long night so that the night sky and moon provide shadows to hide in and produce a dark, eerie feeling for the player.
Target Audience
The target audience for this game would be mature as it would depict realist prison violence and mature themes.
Levels
The first part of the game would take place in the jungles of the island and on the rocky cliffs as you navigate around to accomplish objectives. The second part would take place in the dark creepy old halls and chambers of the prison itself. The third part would take place on the beaches and docks of the island as you finish your escape.
User Interface
The user interface is really simple for this game. The only thing that is on the screen at all times is a mini map. The health bar and alert bar only pop up as needed when the player takes damage or if there are enemies around. There is also a stamina bar that appears if the player is running.

This game will use the Unreal Engine 3 and would be written in C++

Board Game Redesign
For this project we had to take a classic board or card game and add new mechanics. The goal was to think creatively and make new mechanics that would improve on a concept that was already successful.
